Waterford City and County Council was asked to address the issue of derelict pubs in the locality at last week’s Comeragh District Meeting.
Fianna Fáil Cllr John O’Leary highlighted the condition of The Cosy Thatch and the premises formerly known as Kelly’s, both of which are in the Kilmeaden area.
“Both are in very bad repair and are unsightly,” said Cllr O’Leary. Both Fine Gael Cllr Seanie Power and Fianna Fail Cllr Mary Butler concurred with Cllr O’Leary. Director of Services Brian White said he was conscious of the extent of derelict sites in Waterford. He said the council had been unable to contact the owners of the pubs in question and may have to look at taking other actions.
“Both developments are unsafe and are dangerous structures,” he said. However Mr White said the issue of derelict pubs was not confined to Kilmeaden, also mentioning Rockett’s in Tramore.
He said he would examine the situation and report back.
