Cullen officially opens upgraded Airport Road

Minister Martin Cullen formally opened the new R708 Waterford Airport Road on Friday last. The new road will cut journey times between the city and the Airport by up to 50%. This fully upgraded and remodelled 5.2 kilometre road is an important route for people in the South East as it connects the city with the regional airport.

Regional and Local Road grant totalling €10.45 million, supporting the Government’s National Spatial Strategy, have been provided towards the total cost of the R708 remodelled road. Speaking at the official opening, Minister Cullen said: “The new road will be safer for users and will greatly increase the accessibility of the Airport. In addition, this improved access will increase the potential for the development of local enterprise and the attractiveness of the Waterford area as a location for new business. Increasingly, we find that businesses of all sizes require good connections with Europe and further afield, which can only be provided by air transport which this new road will facilitate.”
