Grant Scheme for the Conservation of Protected Structures
Waterford County Council is now accepting applications for the 2010 Conservation Grant Scheme.
The scheme is administered by the Council on an annual basis and is subject to the availability of funding from the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
Its objective is to assist the owner or occupier of a structure which is protected because of its architectural, historical, archaeological, artistic, cultural, scientific, social or technical interest, to undertake conservation works.
Last year 25 projects were prioritised – mainly roof/window repair works to residential properties throughout the county – but others such as works to the Barron Hall in Stradbally and St Andrews Church in Dunmore East also received funding.
Over the past decade Waterford County Council has allocated over €725,000 to 175 projects. The amount of grant varies but generally does not exceed €13,000. In exceptional circumstances, however, €25,000 or 75% of the total eligible costs can be allocated (whichever is the lesser).
Homeowners are encouraged to carry out works to their houses on a phased basis and can receive funding for eligible projects annually.
More details and application forms for this scheme and other sources of funding are available from: Rosemary Ryall, Conservation Officer, WCC, Civic Offices, Dungarvan; via download from www.waterfordcoco.ie; or by emailing rryall@waterfordcoco.ie
Completed applications must be submitted by February 26th.
