Hook Lighthouse Summer Lecture Series announced
The award-winning Hook Lighthouse will play host to a series of five lectures to be held over the summer, started Wednesdaywith historian Billy Colfer’s guide to castles and castle builders on the peninsula.
On Wednesday next, July 28th, Kevin Whelan will deliver a lecture titled: ‘By Hook and by Crook: roads, rivers, ferries and bridges – travel in Wexford: an historic perspective’ (7.30pm).
On Wednesday, August 4th (7.30pm) Niall Colfer will recall the history of millstones and limekilns on the Hook Peninsula, with Cathal Mooney discussing astronomy on Thursday, August 12th at 8pm.
The final lecture in the series, appropriate given the location will be delivered by Pat Power, who will focus on lighthouses.
A donation of €5 towards defibrillators for use on The Hook Peninsula has been suggested by the lecture series’ organisers. Tea and coffee will be served at each lecture.
