LEADING car rental company Europcar is to drive Waterford’s leading newspaper.

The company presented The Munster Express with a Europcar van at Waterford’s Europcar base at The Sweep, Kilmeaden last week.

Speaking at the presentation, Europcar Franchise Development Manager Liam O’Donohoe said the company hopes to significantly expand into the domestic rental sector.

“Rental is something which is more relevant for people in the changed economic landscape. However, the domestic rental sector is currently underdeveloped,” said Mr O’Donohoe.

There are two distinctive segments to Europcar operations – airport locations and non-airport locations. Europcar locations outside of Ireland’s airports can be found in Dublin, Galway, Athlone, Cavan, Navan and Waterford.

“These locations are ideal for obtaining domestic rental cars without having to go to the airport. You can hire a car for the weekend or a specific trip. There is no tax, no depreciation, no maintenance involved,” said Mr O’Donohoe.

He added: “The number of people driving to work in Dublin is down, and the government is trying to encourage more people to use public transport. Irish love ownership, be it cars, land etc. Typically, the average Irish family has had two cars. We can now support those who have a one owned vehicle with a rental option as well.

” Europcar also has arrangements in place with insurance companies FBD and AIG.
