New fire stations welcomed

fireWork on two new fire stations in Waterford was discussed at the March plenary meeting of Waterford City & County Council.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Mary Butler congratulated all those involved with the new Portlaw Fire Station.

She said the development of the station was close to her own heart due to her father’s involvement with the fire service for 26 years.

Independent Cllr Joe Kelly said he understood that the new Waterford Fire Station on Kilbarry Road was now 92 per cent completed.

He asked if there was a specific date for the opening of the station and when the transfer of services from the existing station would take place.

Director of Services Paul Daly explained that some works still had to be carried out on Portlaw Fire Station before it could be formally opened.

In relation to Waterford City’s new station, he said there currently were no open or transition dates.
