Planning Granted for Dunmore Development

Planning permission has been granted for 61 two-storey houses in Dunmore East. The project, from Liam Carey Homes Ltd, is to consist of four two-bed terraced houses, 44 three-bed semi-detached and 12 four-bed semi-detached. The final house is a four-bed detached unit. .It is to be located on the Killea Road and will also entail the development of both a new roadway entrance and internal road network. Local Councillor Pat Fitzgerald (SF) hopes it will help families remain in the area: “I cautiously welcome it. The shortage of housing has meant you have the situation where natives of Dunmore East are being priced out of their own area – often by people who aren’t looking to live here and are looking to make an investment.”

“I would like to see if this can mean families and new generations can be brought to stay in the area,” he added. It’s a similar experience faced by young families in other resort areas of County Waterford, such as Ardmore. Locals there have resorted to a co-operative housing project which seeks to build 20 homes, made up of private affordable housing and social housing.
In the last Census, Dunmore East was recorded as the fastest growing urban area in Waterford with a 16 per cent population growth in the years between 2011 and 2016.
Submissions on the development can be lodged to Waterford City & County Council.
