‘Enterprising’ lease agreed for Clashmore
Waterford Counrty Council has approved a proposal to lease the premises known as The Old Church, Clashmore, to the Clashmore Community Enterprise Group for 99 years at a rent of €1 per annum.
Director of Services Denis McCarthy said special conditions of the lease were that the tenants would be responsible for all rates payable on the property during the term of the lease.
It was also a condition of the lease that he premises would be utilised solely for the purpose of assisting with the provision of enterprise activities for the community in Clashmore.
Art Groups receive Council funding
Waterford County Council has awarded the sum of €10,550 to 26 groups who play a significant artistic role in towns and villages around the county.
The prestigious Immrama Literary Festival, Lismore, was granted €1,575 and the County Waterford Fleadh Ceoil was given €600.
The Rathgormack Set Dancing Festival and the West Waterford Drama Festival, Ballyduff Upper, were each granted €600 while the popular Booley House, Ballyduff Upper, got €400.
Grants of €300 each were given to Cul Cheoil, Cul na Smear, Dunmore East Bluegrass Festival, 123Drama Festival, County Waterford and Winnies Trad Festival, Cappoquin.
In drama, €300 each was granted towards a production to each of the following during 2010: Aisteoiri Sliabh gCua, Touraneeta.; Aisteoiri an tSean Phobail; Ballyduff Upper Drama Group; Brideview Players, Tallow; Dawn Players, Kilmeaden; Dungarvan Drama Club; Gealach Gorm Theatre Group, Kill; KCK Kilgobinet/Colligan/Kilbrien Players; Lismore Dramatic Society; Stagemad Theatre Co. Tramore;
Music grants were awarded to Dungarvan Brass Band and Youth Band (€300), Klub Musik, Riverstown, Tramore (€300); Lismore Choir (€375) and Waterford Male Voice Choir (€300).
Dungarvan Camera Club received €500 while the Tramore Writers Group was awarded €300.
€108,000 set aside for conferences
A maximum of €108,100 has been provided by Waterford County Council for Councillors to attend conferences, seminars and training courses in 2010.
The amount is based on €4,700 multiplied by the number of public representatives on the local authority.
The money will cover expenditure on attending domestic and foreign evens and include all costs associated with conference such as fees and travel—subsistence expenses.
The Training Plan for Councillors was prepared in consultation with the Corporate Policy Group and is based on the key policy issues and challenges facing the council and the profile and experience of councillors and the available budget.
It will provide a structured approach to supporting the development needs of councillors and inform decisions by the council on conferences, seminars and events at which the local authority should be represented.
The Corporate Policy Group will assess the relevant and suitable conferences notified to the council and prepare a list and recommend conference for consideration at the monthly meeting. Conferences recommended will be consistent with the training programme and have regard to available budgets and value for money.
They will also consider he size of the proposed delegation and in particular interests of those selected to attend.
Dungarvan Outer Bypass update
The selection report on the route of the Dungarvan Outer Bypass Road has been submitted to the National Roads Authority and approval has been sought by Waterford County Council to bring the scheme to public consultation phase again.
Director of Services Michael Quinn said that after a recent meeting with the NRA the submission of the report to the members of the Council had been delayed by a few weeks to allow for some clarification on he design of the scheme.
