Waterford designer wins major cookware award

ElyseeRangeA new range of coloured enamel cast iron cookware, designed by Waterford based designer Marcus Notley  has scooped the top ‘Best New Kitchen Product 2009’ Award at the recent ‘Autumn Gift and Home Show 2009’held at the RDS.

The Élysée Range was designed for an established Irish cookware brand ‘La Cuisine’.

“Good design is about listening to your clients and understanding exactly what their customers actually want,” said Marcus. “Good design creates very successful products and good design sells.”

Commenting on the design, ‘La Cuisine’ company director Brian Gallagher said: “We feel we have managed to get all the proportions, handle sizes and everything just right. It feels great to hold with a totally natural hand-fit and the new subtle rich colours of the range are proving a big hit.”

The product has just been launched and is now available in shops throughout Ireland and the UK.

Marcus Notley has designed products for a wide variety of businesses throughout Ireland and abroad.

He is a member of the Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI), and has been a visiting lecturer at the National College of Art and Design and other Design Colleges across the country.

Marcus is also hosting this year’s Design Week 2009 – ‘Designed in Ireland’ Event from November 2nd to 14th, at the Waterford City Central Library, where he will be available to discuss any product ideas you are looking to develop.
