WIT-inspired Maths Week Ireland gets underway!

Maths Week Ireland, a week-long festival to celebrate maths and its applications, will continue through to Saturday next, October 17th.

Running at centres in the Republic and Northern Ireland, it is coordinated by Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) group CALMAST (the Centre for the Advancement of Learning of Maths, Science and Technology).

Events will take place on the streets, in schools, higher education institutions, museums and libraries with magicians, jugglers and stand-up comedians taking a fresh look at maths.

Underpinning the fourth annual Maths Week Ireland is a drive to make maths more accessible by showing how interesting the subject can be and how maths underpins so many areas of everyday life.

Given how central it is to employment opportunities in engineering, technology, science, software and finance, maths is a vital element of building the so-called ‘Smart Economy’ that is seen as crucial to economic recovery in Ireland.
