On Saturday last at the inaugural World Youth Olympic Games in Singapore 16-year-old Kate Veale finished 4th in the final of the 5000 metres walk.

Barcelona 2010: mixed fortunes for local athletes

There were mixed fortunes for the Waterford athletes who wore the Irish singlet at last week’s European Athletics Championships in Barcelona.

On Sunday last at the Cork IT track, several athletes from Waterford AC and West Waterford competed in the Munster Masters Championships and there were many medal winners in the various age categories.
West Waterford’s Jamie Costin placed 20th in the European Championship 20-kilometre walk in Barcelona, a race in which team mate and friend Robert Heffernan finished fourth.
