St Angela’s (Waterford) 0; St Caimin’s (Shannon) 3

St Angela’s bowed out of the girls’ under 14 schools Munster Cup at the RSC last week when they came up against a strong and more experienced St Caimin’s team from Shannon.

The Waterford school did have chances during the course of the game, but it was the Shannonsiders who took their opportunities and that was the main difference between the two teams.

The visiting side had a stronger strike force and two of their front runners, Dorah King and Sarah O’Neill did the damage with the St Caimin’s goals.

Bohemians booked a place in Round four of the Munster Youth Cup when they defeated a hard working Carrick United team in Ben Wadding Park on Wednesday last.

Bohs opened the scoring after 11 minutes of play but they did not find the net again until the final ten minutes when they cracked in three goals to break the hearts of a Carrick team who battled manfully all through, but lacked a little bit of craft in the final third of the park. It was the visitors who had the first attempt on goal when Dale O’Mahony let fly from just outside the penalty area but the Bohemians goalkeeper Adam Carroll got down to save.

Tramore 3; Ballina Town 1

Tramore have advanced to Round six of the FAI Junior Cup following this victory in Graun Park on Sunday last.

Unbeaten in all competitions to date this season, Alan Reynold’s charges turned in a very flat performance during the opening 45 minutes but they certainly came good in the second half and duly went on to outclass a hard working Ballina Town outfit.

It was the visitors from Mayo who went close after six minutes of play when Keith Duffy rose high at the back post to meet a free kick taken by Brendan Lavelle but he headed over the crossbar.

Tramore did not have a shot on target until the 36th minute and that effort came from a free kick.

An outstanding first half display set Waterford United’s under-19 side up for a superb victory over neighbours Wexford Youths at the RSC on Friday night.

The young Blues were five goals to the good before their stunned opponents could even muster an attack on Sean Barron’s goal and by the time referee Adam Tszampel blew the final whistle it was 6-2 to the home side, with the Youths having striker Aidan Nolan sent to the line in added time to add to their woes. The Blues posted notice of intent inside two minutes, when Aidan McGrath waltzed into the Wexford area onto Conor Coad’s diagonal ball but he took a touch too many, allowing his marker to take the sting out of the shot.

St Paul’s College (Waterford) 1; Rochestown College (Cork) 2

St. Paul’s bowed out of the Munster Senior School’s Cup competition at the RSC on Thursday last. The Waterford based team had been impressive during the qualifying group stage and they topped their section in great style but sadly a poor display of defending in the first half of this contest cost them dearly.

In fairness to them they fought back manfully during the second period but try as they might they could not force the game into extra time and so their excellent run of victories came to an end.

Rochestown College were by far the best team St Paul’s came up against, of that there is no doubt.

They fielded a rock solid back four who never put a foot wrong during the entire 90 minutes.

Waterford United 6; UCD 0

Following excellent victories against Shelbourne and St Patrick’s Athletic, Waterford United completed a hat-trick of victories against Dublin opposition when they simply blew UCD away at the RSC on Saturday last.

The students had no answer to the power of the Blues who remain in contention for the league title.

The game saw the goalkeepers of both sides red carded, an unusual occurrence to say the least.

Wexford League 1; Waterford League 0

Needing only a draw to advance to the quarter final of the Oscar Traynor Cup, the Waterford League failed to achieve their aim when they crashed to a one goal defeat to a strong and powerful Wexford League team at a bitterly cold North End Park on Sunday afternoon.

Team manager Aidan Swift had to make three changes from the team which defeated Kilkenny in Ozier Park in the opening game, and those changes did not help matters, but the Wexford side deserved their victory and a place in the last eight of the competition.

Keith Walsh fell ill on the morning of the match while his Carrick United colleague John Walsh emigrated to Australia.

Johnville 1; Tramore Rangers 1

Johnville went into this game which was played in St Martin’s Park on Saturday a point behind Tramore Rangers and that remains the case following a top of the table clash which never reached any great heights.

Both sides had a lot of respect for each other and as a result a rather dour contest was the outcome.

Johnville looked odds on to take all three points because they led one nil into stoppage time but Rangers eventually managed to break down a stubborn home defence in the 93rd minute.
