Turning of the Sod
On Thursday July 8th the Ballyduff/Kilmeaden playground committee turned the first sod on their eagerly awaited playground. This was a lovely morning and a day of great excitement for the committee. The group decided that Frank and Trish Power should be the ones to turn the sod as without their generous donation of the land the playground could have been a non runner. Fr O’Byrne blessed the ground on the day praying that the playground will always be a safe and happy place for children.
Our new County Mayor, Councillor Paddy O’Callaghan, was in attendance as was the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Ger Barron. Many of the local councillors from the Comeragh and Tramore areas also joined the committee on the day. Director of Services from Waterford County Council, Frank Curran, was in attendance with Karen Halahan who has been the council member working with the committee from day one and who has been an invaluable support to them. It was lovely to see the owners and employees of the nearby businesses come out and show their support for the project.
The contractors who will begin next Monday. Spraoi Linn were very impressed on the day of the great show of solidarity and community spirit in the area. Thanks to Ger and her staff in the Bistro for providing teas and coffees to all after the event. Well done on the day to all the children present who, at the moment the sod was turned, released balloons into the air. This was a memorable morning and the committee are now very busy organising an official open day which will be remembered forever, so watch this space for details in the coming weeks.
