‘Sweeney Todd’ receives three AIMS nominations

Carrick Musical Society members were on a high in New Ross on Sunday following news that the Society’s production of ‘Sweeney Todd’ had received three nominations in the top tier ‘Gilbert’ section.

Fergal Carroll was nominated for Musical Direction while Emma Jane Reilly was nominated in the Best Comedienne category for her spellbinding performance as the pie making Mrs Lovett.

Thirdly, Matt Williams secured a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category as the pathetic Tobias.

And the good news didn’t end there! The Society’s fourth nomination came in the guise of the Mary Kelly Unsung Hero Award category, with Pádraig Sheehan, the Society’s nominee, being accepted.

The winners will be announced on Saturday, June 19th at the AIMS Awards Banquet in Killarney.

On Sunday at the AIMS Choral Festival in New Ross, Chorus Mistress Catriona O’Dwyer’s hard work led to the Society Choir’s securing second place in the Choral Competition.

On Friday, June 4th, the Premier Swing Band will play in the Strand Theatre, with tickets limited to 100 priced €15, including finger food.

Backed by many stars of the Society who regularly perform with them, the evening is bound to hit the high spots! For further details call the Box Office on 051-645050 or 086-3571403.

This week, the Society’s Youth Academy for the Performing Arts perform ‘Seussical The Musical’ – promising great hope for the Society’s future.

The Society wishes to congratulate stalwart member Brendan Mulvaney who celebrated his 80th birthday last weekend.

Since he joined the Society in 1950, Brendan has performed as a chorus member, playing principal roles, and has also served as a committee member, just recently stepping down as House Manager of the refurbished Strand Theatre.

One of nature’s gentlemen, Brendan has been one of the cornerstones of the Society over the past 60 years and we wish him every good wish.
