New Year, new season for Musical Society

As the New Year begins we in the Musical Society are planning our new season of entertainment, we have Godspell in March, Annie in June, A.I.M.S Choral Festival in July, Panto in October and we hope a fundraising concert somewhere in between all them. So a busy year. On top of these productions we have a program of fundraising events which will be organized by the fundraising subcommittee. These will include our Bingo nights, a Flag Day and lots more.

While these events are going on we will be running the Strand Theatre. We have now been open for a few years and it is getting harder to bring bands and groups to Carrick. As a theatre we are sometimes too small for the big guys as they need around 500 seats, we have 356 seats, and too big for the small guys as they fear they will not fill the Theatre and lose money. At some gigs we had as little as 80 people and as hard times set in it will be harder still to gets bums on seats. So we will have to try a new approach as to how we run the Theatre, so keep an eye out for new gigs and as you have in the past please continue to support these events.

Last time we spoke I left out the new committee members I only gave you the officers, so the members are, Martin Morrissey, Michael O Hara, Breda Butler, Sandra Power, Fiona Barkley, Aidan Doherty and Ann Longeran sorry gang. During the festive period we gathered outside the Strand Theatre on Christmas Eve and sang carols. It was so cold but it made Christmas Eve that little bit special. We should build on it for next year, well done all who attended and shame on you who stayed in the heat!! The St Stevens night disco in the Carraig was a great success and well attended with some well needed funds raised, well done gang. Don’t forget rehearsals for Godspell start back this week and the Academy is back on Thursday the 20th Jan, So a Happy and peaceful New Year to you all.
