Residents oppose N24 relocation of Carrick By-Pass

Residents at Killonerry, Bawngarriff and Garnarea are gravely concerned regarding the impact the proposed route for the N24 Carrick-on-Suir By-Pass will have on their area. Many residents only became aware of the proposed route in the past 4 weeks and are extremely dissatisfied with the lack of clarification available in relation to queries raised at recent Public Consultations with the National Roads Authority and South Tipperary County Council.

They point out that, should the proposed route be approved later this year, it will have a detrimental affect on our community. Life long neighbours will be separated by a dual carriageway, land will be taken from residents/land owners without their consent and many road safety and access issues will exist, as is already the case at a number of junctions on the current Piltown By-Pass leading into the town of Carrick-on-Suir.

The point out that many people in the area may not be aware of the proposed new route and encourage them to seek a copy of maps from the Town Hall, New Street, Carrick-on-Suir, to see just how the area will be impacted. The country roads around Killonerry and Bawngarriff have been an exercise route for many people in Carrick-on-Suir and nearby areas down through the years, the proposed route will no longer allow for safe walking in these areas.

Objections to the proposed new route can be made to South Tipperary County Council prior to Monday, 15th November. The residents in the area are calling on as many people as possible to support them in endeavouring to have the proposed route moved or stopped/“A by-pass of this nature would have a detrimental affect on businesses in Carrick-on-Suir, who already find trading in the current economic climate extremely difficult. Please take this opportunity to have your voice heard, it may be the only opportunity to object or submit your opinions”, said a spokesperson.

The spokesperson added that the Closing Date was Monday, 15th November and submissions should be sent to The County Secretary, Roads Section, South Tipperary County Council, County Hall, Emmet Street, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.
