Sean Kelly Bicycle Tour of Waterford

The 4th annual Sean Kelly Leisure Bicycle Tour of Waterford takes place this year on the weekending 28th and 29th of August. The tour is part of An Post Cycle Series and this is the first year that a stage will be held on the Saturday. There will be three routes to choose from to suit the different types of cycling enthusiasts – the tough 160k Comeragh Challenge, the Family Friendly 50k Cruise and the new 90k Coast taking in Tramore and the Copper Coast. The 10k Saturday stage will be ideal for the family aged from seven years upwards along the traffic-free recreational trail of the old railway line. The organising committee consists of representatives from Waterford County Council, Waterford Sports Partnership, Waterford Community Forum and the local cycling clubs. This year, there will not be an opportunity for participants to register on the weekend of Tour so it is advisable for those intending to participate to enter as soon as possible. The last day for entries is Friday 20th August. The entry fees for the Comeragh Challenge and the Coast Route is €40 and for the 50k Coast it is €20 for over 16s and €10 for under 16s. All participants will get a ‘goody bag’ containing a Sean Kelly Tour specially designed jersey and access to the water and food stops. Entry for the new 10k Saturday cycle will be on the day with registration from 1.00 pm at the Causeway Tennis Club and a fee of only €2 will get you a cycle route, a goody bag and access to one food stop at the halfway point.

It is planned to start this stage at 2.00 pm. It is hoped to at least match last year’s record entry of nearly 3,000 riders and participants can also opt to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
