The best laid plans!

Our Scottish Celtic cousin Bobby Burns was right. The best laid plans often gang awa’. So it is that the Musical Society’s AGM which was arranged for Thursday of this week, 28th January, has been postponed, for various reasons, and has been rescheduled for Wednesday of next week, 3rd. February, in the Coffee / Wine Bar of the Strand Theatre. Members have already been contacted by text of the change. Hoping to see all Members at the Strand on Wednesday next at 8 pm.

‘First Blood’ and ‘A Mug of Suds and A Leather Strop’ are two posters being unveiled at the theatre, this week. ‘First Blood’ of course, refers to Sweeney Todd’s first victim, the charlatan barber Pirelli, who had the audacity to try to blackmail Sweeney, and finished up in a trunk after a close, bloody shave from Sweeney. And of course, ‘The Mug and Strop’ are just two of the demon barber’s tools as he shaves his way through London’s slums.

His most important tool is his cuthroat razor. And by now, it has had a busy time, leaving plenty of dead bodies around Mrs. Lovett’s Meat Shop. The feeling and vibes at rehearsal is electric as Principals and Chorus, with Catriona O’Dwyer at the keyboard, sing and act out their respective parts, under the watchful eye of Assistant to the Director, Fiona Hennessy, who is running affairs until Tony returns on Sunday, 8th. February. Exciting things are happening and SWEENEY TODD is going to be great.

Booking for ‘Sweeney Todd’ opens on Thursday 11th. February at the Strand Theatre Box Office, 051 645050, and credit card facilities are available.
