Tullahought Celebrates Heritage Week

The Tullahought Community Committee has organised a varied and interesting programme of events for National Heritage Week. The Official Opening takes place on Friday evening 20th August in the Community Centre at 8 o’clock with a cheese and wine reception followed by a Bat Walk from 8.30 to 9.30 led by a representative from Bat Conservation Ireland and after that a Traditional Music Session and Song in the Community Hall.

On Saturday evening 21st August there will be a Lecture in the Community Centre by Aighleann O’Shaughnessy, Senior Architect at the National Monuments Branch of the OPW. The theme of the lecture will be the State ownership of the National Monuments in the vicinity of Tullahought such as the Ahenny High Crosses and other similar Crosses in the vicinity, Ormonde Castle in Carrick on Suir, Kilcash and Jerpoint Castles and the Knockroe Passage Tomb.
Sunday 22nd will be the busiest day of the weekend commencing at 11.00 am with a camogie and hurling blitz for the under 12s in the Sportsfield and in the afternoon at 2 o’clock a bus tour of historical sites in the Tullahought area starting at the Church and this will be followed by a Loop Walk in Kilmacoliver at 3 o’clock. Throughout the weekend there will be an Art Exhibition in the Community Hall. Admission to all events are free with lots of parking spaces and all venues are wheelchair accessible.
