Young Jack’s ‘Stroll Down Memory Lane’

JackPhelanA local history booklet entitled ‘A Stroll Down Memory Lane’ compiled by Jack Phelan a 2nd year student at the Carrick-on-Suir CBS is now for sale in the town.

This work, part of Jack’s school enterprise project, is an eclectic collection of anecdotal tales from times past and includes many archived photos of people from the town and district. Jack began researching material in October and asked his grandmother, an avid bridge player, to speak to her friends and feedback to him on anyone who would be interested in contributing to his booklet.

Jack also sourced information from around his own village in Ballyneale taking time to meet and talk to local people who were happy to help him. He also scrutinised copies of ‘The Carrick Opinion’ newspaper and credits Josephine Dunne for her help as she had collected and kept copies of the newspaper. Local people and historians from the town have also contributed to the booklet and the end result has been a successful one. People are buying ‘A Stroll Down Memory Lane’ and looking for more. Jack enjoyed the challenge and says it is important to document the great history in Carrick for future generations and he thanks all who contributed the many stories and photos.

Jack’s booklet which took two months to complete is available for €5 and can be bought at Phelan’s Shoes, Sue Ryder, and Mrs Quinn’s Charity Shop. He will also be selling copies at Super Valu on Thursday 16th December from 10am – 3pm.
