County Intermediate Hurling Final

All roads will lead to Walsh Park on Sunday when Dungarvan take on Clonea in a repeat of the 2006 county intermediate hurling final won that day by Clonea.

Dungarvan have surpassed the expectations of many by winning out in the West and their defeats of Cappoquin and Ardmore in the divisional semi-final and final respectively were particularly impressive. The team, overall, is a very youthful one with no player over the thirty age mark and several teenagers in the starting fifteen. A great future sign for both the team and the club.

In defeating Ardmore in the Western final the young Blues displayed tremendous character and commitment, and while they will go into this county final as rank outsiders the boys will be ready to give it their all on the day.

The team can expect huge support as the game has captured public imagination throughout the Old Boro to a quite remarkable degree. The lads have done themselves and the town proud thus far and now hopefully they will surmount that all important final hurdle. The very best of good luck to them.

Incidentally the club suffered a heavy defeat in the West intermediate football semi-final against the Nire last Saturday at Fraher Field but most importantly all of the hurlers involved came out of the game injury free. It really was the case of just fulfilling a fixture given the proximity of next Sunday’s county final.
