Friday last was an historic day locally in terms of the Garda Síochana. It officially marked the retirement from the force of Garda Eddie Fitzpatrick, a native of Ballacolla in county Laois who has been stationed in the town for more than a quarter of a century.
Fellow officers and many of his of friends from among the general public gathered at Bridgie Terry’s in Kilineen to mark the occasion and to pay handsome and deserved tributes to a man who has been such an inspiring and exemplary presence in the Gardaí for so long.
