Illegal Encampment Ends
After several weeks of what was unlawful occupation, the last members of an illegal traveller encampment departed their location across from the GSK plant last week. Throughout their stay the travellers had their caravans, cars, and vans parked completed on the footpath forcing pedestrians out onto the public road, including mothers of young children pushing buggies. Seemingly the Town Council and the garda authorities turned a blind eye to the whole situation leaving local residents very angry and frustrated. Now that the travellers have gone(again!!), is it too much to ask that plans be put in place to tackle any such future illegal encroachments? Or is it that these people can park wherever and whenever they like while the rest of us run the risk of parking tickets and fines if we step even an inch outside the law?
