Just as we had predicted in last week’s column, Labour’s Cllr. Teresa Wright is our new Mayor for the coming twelve months, having taken over as First Citizen from outgoing Mayor Tom Higgins at last week’s annual meeting of the Town Council.

This will be Teresa’s fourth time to hold the prestige position of Mayor and we are delighted to extend deserved and sincere congratulations to her. Similarly many thanks to outgoing Mayor Tom Higgins who certainly represented the town throughout the past twelve months. He was as attentive to his countless mayoral duties as anyone ever could be and we have every good reason to be proud of him.
