Category first for Fenor in Tidy Towns

The 2010 results were announced last week and Fenor came first in their category in the Tidy Towns competition. We were up by seven points to our previous year. Great credit goes to everyone for their efforts. The Judges’ comments included: ‘The modest church is beautifully maintained, with its boundary walls. The school is equally well presented. It is good to read how deeply the school children and past pupils are involved in the projects. It is understood that the school has Green Flag Status. Congratulations to the School staff and parents on this. The GAA is bright and inviting and the former post office building has been decently upgraded.’

The landscaping of the area was also acknowledged, with notable mention of the planting of flowers, selection and colour. There was great praise for the roadside verges and the drystone ditches. Unfortunately there was a very substantial amount of litter at Kilfarassy Beach – although there are adequate bins in place. The village and bog area were fine. It was debatable whether the natural wood sculpture serves an artistic or decorative purpose.

Well done again to all involved.
