New CD from South Kilkenny Group
A brand new CD was launched at a packed Irish’s pub in Ballykeoghan on Friday night last, February 26th. This well-known watering hole, now run by Lisa and Donnacha, provided the perfect setting for the launch of a most interesting and highly commended CD from the new South Kilkenny group Mursheen agus Sean Chairde. David Walsh, aka Mursheen, has been on the scene for a long time now and was involved in top class groups over a long period of time. He has now been joined by Tony Power, whose family have been part and parcel of music in South Kilkenny for generations, and by Ben Walsh and Catherine Walsh. Paul Grant of Slieverue, who has been associated with some all-time greats of Irish music, including the late Liam Clancy, has arranged and produced this CD, which includes many old favourites and a very interesting song obtained from Jim Anderson here in Mullinavat, titled “A ship it sailed from Mullinavat”. Their next gig is in Eamon Irish’s establishment up in Knocktopher on March 7th. Eamon and his wife Yvonne purchased this establishment last year and trade has been good to them since their opening. We wish Davie Walsh and his group success. He can be contacted at 087-9510293 for bookings.
Image 02: Pictured here is one of the last pictures taken of the Kilmacow creamery committee, taken some years ago. The ‘for sale’ sign has gone up for the Mullinavat creamery and the Carrigeen complex at Ballinlough. Creameries still remaining under the Glanbia signage are Glenmore and Loughcullen; the latter remaining open for the moment, having been partly rescued on a ¾-day week basis for the moment. Well-known Glenmore and Kilkenny hurler Christy Heffernan and his auctioneering company based in Waterford has charge of the Mullinavat site regarding its sale.
