Residents up in arms over proposed N24 bypass
Residents at Killonerry, Bawngarriff and Garnarea are gravely concerned regarding the impact the proposed route for the N24 Carrick-on-Suir bypass will have on their area. Many residents only became aware of the proposed route in the past four weeks and are extremely dissatisfied with the lack of clarification available in relation to queries raised at recent public consultations with the NRA and South Tipperary County Council.
Should the proposed route be approved later this year, it will have a detrimental affect on our community. Lifelong neighbours will be separated by a dual carriageway, land will be taken from residents and land owners without their consent, and many road safety and access issues will exist, as is already the case at a number of junctions on the current Piltown bypass leading into Carrick-on-Suir.
Many people in the area may not be aware of the proposed new route and we encourage you to seek a copy of maps from the Town Hall, New Street, Carrick-on-Suir, to see just how badly the area will be impacted. The country roads around Killonerry and Bawngarriff may no longer be safe for walking.
Objections to the proposed new route can be made to South Tipperary County Council prior to Monday, November 15th. The residents in the area would very much appreciate if as many people as possible can support them in endeavouring to have the proposed route moved or stopped! Please take this opportunity to have your voice heard, it may be the only opportunity to object or submit your opinions. Reminder: the closing date is Monday, November 15th, with submissions to the County Secretary, Roads Section, South Tipperary County Council, County Hall, Emmet Street, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.
