Piltown Credit Union Members’ Car Draw

The Directors of Piltown, Carrick-on-Suir and Dungarvan Credit Unions Ltd. have agreed to organise a Members’ Car Draw provided a sufficient number of members necessary to make the draw self-financing commit to the venture. The proposed annual subscription to participate in the draw is ¬ 52. Closing date for entry is Friday March 2nd. Entry forms available during opening hours at the Credit Union office at Main Street, Piltown.

Four day Mission

A four day mission or retreat will take place in Mooncoin and Templeorum parishes from February 24th – 28th, by Fr. Patsy Kelly NSC. Both parishes will work together in the future.

Trawler Tragedy

A fund raiser cabaret will take place at The Ferry Bay, Grannagh on Friday 23rd from 10pm. Music by Avalon. There will be a door prize and a raffle, admission is ¬ 5. Tickets or donations to Kevin at 087-7406354,

Mooncoin Juvenile GAA Notes

The AGM was held in the complex on Friday, January 19th. Secretary Seamus Crowley had a very detailed Report for the year and thanked all who helped with the race night and the bag pack. On the field we had a very busy year with our under eights and nines taking part in the Roanmore tournament. U10’s took part in the Waterford city league. U11 took part in WCL and were unbeaten in the under 11 ground hurling. At u12 level we played in WCL and mini league in Kilkenny. U13 had a very good WCL and were beaten in the semi final by Roanmore.

Our u14’s played a very strong Callan team in the Roinn B County Final & were beaten by a point in the Rower tournament by O’Loughlin Gaels.

At U16 level were beaten by Castelcomer in the football final and were beaten by Dicksboro in the Hurling semi final. Our Minors were beaten by Clara in the League final and O’Loughlins in the hurling. Special mention to Eugene Fitzgerald who organised the fathers and sons match on New Year’s Day. Man of the match was Mick Holten and Captain of the son’s team Niall (Chicken) Dowling.

The proceeds were presented to Billy O’Keeffe on Behalf of the Day Care centre. Seamus also thanked all out sponsors for the year and Michael Blanchfield who sponsored new jerseys for the U14 team.

Committee for 2007 are as follows: Chairman – Tom O’Hanlon, Secretary – Seamus Crowley, Treasurer – John Purcell, PRO – Joan Daly, U10 Manager – Mick Holten, U11/12 Manager – Jamie Dunphy, U13/14 -Manager Paddy Crowley, Under 16 Manager – Joan Daly and Minor Manager – Eddie Crowley. A registration night will be held in the Complex on Friday, February 23rd at 8pm.

Homoeopathy

Céilí Dance

A Ceili will take place in the parish hall Mooncoin on Friday night, February 16th. Music on the night by The Abbey Céilí Band, tea and cakes served. Proceeds to Mooncoin Junior Set Dancers fund.

Desi Hynes for Piltown

On Saturday night next, February 17th, the ever popular Desi Hynes makes a popular return to the Piltown GAA complex. On Saturday 24th Pat Blanche will play. The following Saturday nights will feature: March 3rd – Owen Condon, March 10th – The rising star Laurence Campion, March 17th Pat Hogan. Dancing every Saturday from 9.30pm until late.

TempleorumForge

If anyone in the area can tell the exact year the new forge was built in Templeorum village, please contact Mick Dalton at the shop. It was built by the late Jo Delaney.

Eigse elect officers for the New Year

The annual general meeting of the Eigse Sliabh Rua took place in the Rhu Glen, Slieverue on Monday night of last week. All officers and committee members other than those with apologies given were present.

Chairman Jim Walsh reviewed a most successful year of activities and thanked the Ard Comhairle for their great assistance.

Officers elected: Chairman – Mr Jim Walsh, Vice Chairman -Mr Jimmy Guiry, Secretary- Ms Katherine Grant, Treasurer – Ms Breda Lynch, PRO – Mr Jack Burtchaell. All Committee members were re-elected.

Federation of Community groups in South Kilkenny

Members of community and voluntary groups in the Piltown Electoral area are invited to an area meeting of the confederation of community and voluntary groups in south Kilkenny at the John O’Donovan Hall, Slieverue at 8 p.m. on Monday 26th February â ¬Ü07. Fr. Nicholas Flavin chairman and members of the community and voluntary forum of Co. Kilkenny will attend. 

Green home energy meeting for Slieverue

Calling all homeowners in Slieverue area. Are you interested in reducing your fuel bills? Would you like to energy audit your home? Are you concerned about Climate Change? If so you are invited to attend a Green Home meeting in Slieverue N.S. on this Thursday February 15th at 8pm. This meeting is organised by An Taisce Green-schools in partnership with the EPA. Farm family – South Kilkenny group

The farm family group, South Kilkenny region will hold a meeting of their organization on February 21st in the Teagasc office, Mullinavat commencing at 8pm. The agenda include a presentation on Community Alert which should be of interest to all concerned.

Kilkenny ICA Federation

ICA Kilkenny President Breda McDonald and her executive are organising a weekend in the Kingdom of Kerry from May 7th to 11th. Peggy Dowling in Kilkenny will take deposits and all interested are asked to contact her or through their respective ICA guilds.
