A remembrance mass for all our deceased colleagues, suppliers and contract workers will be held on November 26th in The Dominican Church, Black Abbey, Kilkenny at 7.15pm. All welcome.

Over one hundred people attended the second meeting held in the Community Centre in Kilmacow on Wednesday, 30th October to discuss the Eirgrid Grid Link Project.  There was also a workshop session where members of the coordination committee made themselves available to help people make their submissions on the proposal. Two of the proposed corridors K1 and K18 are shown to come through Kilmacow. Each corridor is 1km wide and K1 includes Ballinaboly, Molum, Upper Ballydaw, Dangan, Ballykeoghan, Ballykillaboy, Melville, Bishops-hall, Fahee and Loughcullen.  K18 includes Flemingstown, Newtown, Grannyknock, Tinlough, Milltown, Dunkitt, Blossom Hill, Newtown, Ballinamorahan, Gaulstown, Cappagh and Charlestown. It is important to point out that the above named townlands are indicative and local people are advised to consult the map which is on display in the Community Centre in Kilmacow.   The proposed corridors can also be viewed on www.eirgridprojects.com/projects/gridllink.   Eirgrid Information Offices are open at the Nano Nagle Centre, Carrick on Suir from 12 noon to 6.00pm each Tuesday and at The Coach House, Marsh Lane, New Ross from 12 noon to 6.00pm each Wednesday. Eirgrid Submission forms are available at retail outlets around the parish and in the Community Centre.   There is also a box in the Community Centre for completed submissions.  Email kilmacowagainstpylons@outlook.com.

Christmas at Ferrybank Library

Christmas is coming! A free demonstration of Christmas flower crafts including Christmas wreaths and table arrangements will be held on Thursday 21st November from 12pm – 1.30pm. Congratulations to those who took part in our Halloween quiz and colouring competitions. Winners are: Orlaith McDonald, Harry O’Shea, David Sheridan, Aoibhe Bolger and Mariya Lyash – well done. Book Club – next meeting is on Wednesday 27th November at 5.30pm. New members welcome.

Strictly Come Dancing

Ballyhale Shamrocks GAA Club and Mullinavat GAA clubs are jointly hosting a ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ fundraising event on November 16th at The Hub in Cilin Hill, Kilkenny. Both clubs have 16 dancing participants which are currently taking part in an intensive twelve week training schedule. Tickets are available from Mullinavat GAA Club (Billy 083 4058150) and Ballyhale GAA Club (Sean 086 1721692) or any Committee Member. Tickets cost €20 for Adults, €10 for Juniors ( 12-15yrs). Doors open at 6.30pm on the night. The Dance Competition is expected to finish at 11.00 pm with music till late. All are welcome.

South Kilkenny Historical Society

South Ossory PTAA

The South Ossory Pioneer council is holding its annual dinner /dance in the Rhu Glen, Slieverue on Friday 15th November. Dinner will be served at 8.30pm. ‘Twice Shy’ will provide music. Tickets can be purchased from any of the PTAA centres in South Kilkenny/Ossory region.

Eigse Continues

Eigse Continues this week with following events: The 1913 Lock-Out will be the subject of Pádraig Yeates’s lecture in the School Hall in The Rower at 8.00pm on Wednesday (tonight) 13th November. Billy Murphy (former Deputy Managing Director, Glanbia) will present a lecture on the cooperative movement in the 20th century at 8pm on Thursday (tomorrow night) 14th November in the John O’Donovan Parish Centre. A tour of the museum at Kilkenny has been arranged for Saturday 16th November and events will include on Sunday 17th November with ‘Do Bhios-sa lá bPort Láirge, a humorous stroll through the history of Slieverue and Waterford set to music and song.  Music will also feature for the closing of Eigse for 2013 in Lyon’s Lounge from 10.15pm later that evening
