A guide to The Comeragh Mountains

The second edition of the very popular book, A Guide to the Comeragh Mountains, has just been published by Declan McGrath and is now available in all the local bookshops at €€20. The first edition in 1995 was an invaluable guide but very quickly sold out. To cater for the ongoing demand a revised and expanded edition has now been produced, using the latest colour printing technology available at Intacta Print here in Waterford.

One of the more appealing features of the book is the section on walks, which show how to get to various parts of the Comeraghs besides the beautiful but popular Mahon Falls. Would you like to visit Coumshingaun, possibly the finest in all Ireland, or would you like to go see where William Crotty the famous outlaw lived at the majestic coum which now bears his name. If you do then a comprehensive Walks section gives details of 18 walks suitable for any reasonably fit person with details on how to prepare for a walk, what to bring and, most importantly, how to stay safe on the hills.

However if you would like more about the Comeraghs there are chapters on Geology and Climate, Flora and Fauna, Changes to the Comeraghs and the Importance and Future of the range. Many of the Comeragh placenames are also included and most of the archaeological sites in range are mentioned and each chapter is illustrated with maps and many fine photographs of this impressive mountain range.
