Tramore to celebrate World Surfing Day

World Surfing Day (July 21st) is a celebration of everything to do with surfing and takes place on July 21, 2009. Open to all the International Surfing Day will enable the masses to discover the joys of surfing.

This unofficial, official Surfers holiday gives the surfing community the chance to promote and celebrate the sport while also raising awareness of the oceans and beaches.

Oceanics Surf School and T-Bay Surf Club are collaborating for the day; to celebrate the schools are offering reduced hire on surf equipment and hosting a beginners contest and competition for those renting equipment from the two schools.

The ‘Beginners Surf Contest’ starts at 10.30am and runs until 12.30pm, followed by a competition for beginners at 1pm. Booking is essential: call Oceanics Surf School at 051 390944 or T-Bay Surf Club at 051 391297 to reserve a place. (The prize, a Surfboard for the beginner’s competition is sponsored by Oceanics Surf School and Circle One.)

Linda Tuohy owner of Oceanics Surf School, says: “We are amongst hundreds of surf schools celebrating this day internationally… in Ireland Surfing is the fastest growing sport and we are delighted to be hosting an event for beginners.”
