Community Based Drug Initiative

The Suir Valley Community Based Drug Initiative offers a range of responses to the issues of Substance Misuse in Carrick-on-Suir, Portlaw, Clonea Power, and Ballyneil. Grangemockler, and Kilsheelan areas. The project offers Drug education and Awareness Programmes to parents, young people, community groups, sporting groups and any other group needing information. Each Tuesday evening from 5.pm.’ to 8.pm.’ we run an Auricular Acupuncture clinic in conjunction with a Drop-in service at which an Addiction Counsellor from the Substance Misuse Team Clonmel attends. This service is available Free of charge to anyone suffering from an addiction or a family member worried or concerned by another’s addiction. We also provide an Auricular Acupuncture each Thursday 5.30.pm. to 6.30.pm. this involves the placing of 5 small sterile needles in specific points in each ear. The recipient sits quietly for 30 to 40 minutes. This treatment has been shown to be a great help in reducing high stress levels and the impact of withdrawal symptoms and cravings associated with alcohol, opiates, cocaine, cannabis, and also nicotine. Recipients can and do experience many healing benefits from this treatment. There is a small charge €3/€5 for this treatment. For further information contact; 051-645775.
