Portlaw Heritage Centre
The heritage centre will be open to the public on the last Sunday of every month from 3 – 5pm. All are welcome.
Attention all Local History enthusiasts: Would you like to learn more about your locality and region and earn a university diploma in the process? If so, you are invited to attend an open information evening at the Dunhill Multi-Education Centre on Thursday August 26th from 6 – 9 pm. The course is two years on a part time basis.
Ms Joanne Rothwell, Waterford’s well known county archivist, will give a talk on 19th Century Literary and Debating Societies: Portlaw and the Wider World, at Portlaw Heritage Centre on Tuesday 24th August at 8 pm as part of our celebration of Heritage Week 2010. This promises to be an interesting evening, dealing with Portlaw Literary Society and its connection to the wider world of literary and debating societies. All are welcome and entrance is free of charge. Plans are in place for this year’s Fair in the Square which promises to be even better. Proceeds are for the Martin Hospital, Portlaw, a residential home for the elderly.
Opened in 2006 the objective of the Heritage Centre is to establish an archive of the industrial, social and cultural history of Portlaw. The old dispensary provides a focal point for the preservation and conservation of our unique legacy. New members will be made very welcome.

Put your best foot forward – a 10km walk from Carrick to Portlaw, starting at Wall’s Bar, Carrick to the Forge Inn, Portlaw. The walk takes place on August, 29th at 3pm. Free bus to Carrick from the Forge at 2.15pm for the walk and back to Portlaw after the walk at 6.30pm.
