Weatherman John Power

While on the way in to Mass last Sunday morning the weather was just about dry but dark clouds loomed overhead and the day did indeed turn out quite wet. This was the first Sunday in September, All Ireland Hurling day. Seeing as we in the Déises were only going to be interested onlookers our thoughts went to themiserable weather. John rambles in along by the men’s side door and greets us with his usual remarks on the weather to which we responded glumly. He stopped to talk to us and we were enthralled by his stories and his recollection of the weather over nearly seven decades. He said he doesn’t remember such a consistently wet summer but he was able to tell us that the weather was indeed going to settle down during the week. I am sure as you read this we will be after enjoying some nice warm days. I think John’s closeness to nature and the elements is a match for any technology used by the Met Service.
