Wedding

The wedding of Catherine Colfer daughter of Larry and Mrs. Colfer Rochestown, Clongeen and Martin Browne of Enniscorthy took place in Clongeen Church on Friday the 15th February last.

The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. Fr. James Curtis P.P.

The wedding reception was held in the Brandon House Hotel New Ross

Wexford National Football League Win

Wexford senior footballers despite being forced to play for the last 48 minutes with 14 men scored for the last 48 minutes with 14 men scored an exciting 0-14 to 0-13 win over Connacht champions Sligo in national football league at Sligo on Sunday last after a thrilling encounter.

Players from the Shelbourne District who lined out were Brendan Doyle Ramsgrange, Philip Wallace and Adrian Flynn (Gusserane) Paraic Curtis Clongeen, Adrian Morrissey, Taghmon, Ben Brosnan Bannow/Ballymitty, while Paddy Colfer Clongeen, came on as a late sub.

All contributed hugely to victory. This was their second successive win and a fine tribute to new manager – the youngest in Ireland 31 year old Jason Ryan from De La Salle Waterford Club.

DIT Awards

New Trainer/Manager of Fethard St. Mogues

Willie Carley senior Glynn/Barntown a former Wexford senior hurler and footballer has been appointed manager/trainer of the Fethard St. Mogues senior football and Intermediate hurling teams for this year.

Willie a very respected and knowledgeable figure in the GAA scene in Co. Wexford won a minor All Ireland hurling championship with the model county and he has built up a big reputation for himself as a trainer/coach in the model county at club and county level.

He has the Fethard boys hard at it for weeks past.

Tintern Community Lotto

The weekly Tintern Community Lotto Draw took place on Tuesday last the 12th February in Ballycullane.

Ploughing Match

The annual Ballycullane Ploughing Match will be held on Sunday the 2nd March on the lands of Joan Kehoe and Jimmy Cullen at Taylorstown. All the leading Ploughmen in Ireland will be taking part while there are also competition to cater for the lesser lights and the up and coming. The ladies too will be catered for.

St. Martins Ballycullane Church Concert

A Church Concert will be held in St. Martins Church, Ballycullane with the Wexford male Voice Choir and other artists on Friday, February 29th commencing at 8 p.m. It is an eagerly awaited event with tickets costing 10 euros. All are advised to purchase their tickets early.

Ladies Football

Gusserane Ladies Football club will commence training for the Junior football team in Gusserne on tonight Wednesday the 20th February at 7.30 p.m.

All are welcome to attend. Newcomers doubly welcome.

Travelled to Sligo

Many people from the parish travelled to Sligo on Sunday last for the Wexford v Sligo national football league which the model county won after a thrilling encounter. Two Gusserane players Philip Wallace who excelled at full back while tireless Adrian Flynn scored 2 excellent points from his wing forward position.

Lottery Winner

Congratulations to Pat Barron of Drealishtown, Ballycullane on winning sizeable cash prize in a Ramsgrange Lottery recently.

Coast to Coast

The second meeting of the Coast to Coast took in Powers Bar on Wednesday night last. An enthusiastic discussion took place focusing on the more successful methods of fundraising employed on previous occasions. It was decided to hold bucket collections in the four main towns last year. A number of smaller events were also discussed.

Gusserane GAA Clubs A.G.M.

There was an excellent attendance at the annual genera meeting of the Gusserane O’Rahillys GAA Club which was held in the clubrooms in Gusserane on Friday night last.

Community Games Finals

Last week end Tintern performed magnificently well in the Co. Wexford Community Games finals at Adamstown and elsewhere and they and their mentors deserve enormous credit.

Cross-Country

In Adamstown the Tintern boys and girls took on the cream of the county with the Ryan sisters Ciara and Aoife from Clonmines won gold medals as did their neighbour John Roche Junior also Lauren Egan Boley won silver and Aodhnait Kehoe took bronze.

Well done also to Ailbe Ford who finished 4th in her race being unlucky to miss out on a medal.

They will now prepare for the national finals in Mosney Co. Meath in May next.

Draughts

Well done to the draughts team who participated in the draughts competition in Ferns.

U.10 team of Annastasia Breen, (Capt), Sinead Egan, Ryan, Egan Stephen Whelan, Luke Jackson.

U.12 Team John Breen, Jack Burford Martin Fitzharris, Niamh Foran, Lauren Egan.

U.14 team Eoghan Foran, Tom Foran, Sean O’Connor, Elaine Fitzharris, Louis Schoemann, Eoin Kelly.

All three teams played really well with the U.10 team being unlucky to lose out in a play off to Clongeen.

Irish Group Dancing

Well done to all whose who took part in the dancing competitions in Clonroche recently.

Players turned up in good numbers at the weekly Progressive 45 Card Drive which was held in Parish Hall Ballycullane on Wednesday last the 13th February.
