Fine Display by Declan’s

In beautiful Autumn sunshine St. Declan’s played Ballygunner in the college field in the semi final of the U13 Gaelic Football League. Despite the final scoreline this was a good competitive match and full credit must be given to Ballygunner for playing with such great spirit right to the end in what was their second match of the week. Early in the first half, St. Declan’s kicked over some nice points under pressure, but it was the goal by Eoghan O’Dwyer just before half time that made the scoreboard look attractive at 1-4 to 0-0. St. Declan’s kept the hard work going and that led to more scores coming their way. When Ross Fitzpatrick scored St. Declan’s second goal the match was safely beyond the reach of a gallant Ballygunner side. Final Score: St Declan’s 2 – 10 Ballygunner 0 – 4.

St. Declan’s panel: David Hobbs, Gary Walshe, Jack McCarthy, Tom Moran, Stephen Dalton, James Grogan. Ethan Hurley, Luke Kelly, Craig Browne, Eoghan O’Dwyer, Ross Fitzpatrick, Darragh Fitzpatrick, Jack Maher, Shane Hannon, Aaron O’Connor, Keelan Tyrell, Aidan Lawless and Craig Dowling.

Cathedral Event

Thursday, 25th October, marks the anniversary of the Cathedral in Barronstrand Street. It is a special day for the parish of the Cathedral and St. Patrick’s, and it will be celebrated in the Cathedral as a Solemnity in order to emphasise the importance and dignity of this day. In other churches throughout the whole Diocese this day is celebrated as a Feast. Because of the importance of this day, as many people as possible are invited to attend Mass on Thursday, as prayers will be said for our Cathedral and to offer thanks to the past generations who made it possible to build and maintain one of the most important buildings in Waterford City. Daily Mass Times 10:30am and 5:30pm.

Br. Columbanus Exhibition

In a week which the birthday of a great Waterford man Fr. Luke Wadding was marked by a wreath laying ceremony at his statue in Greyfriars, another great man Br Columbanus Deegan O.F.M., who done so much for many Waterford people and who sadly passed away on July 18th 2007 aged 82 years, was remembered by the opening of an exhibition to him in the Central Library, Lady Lane. If you are in around the city centre call into the library and take some time to view the exhibition, which covers the many extraordinary facets of the life of Br. Columbanus.
