Action Line
A few weeks back a Waterford City man, who regularly cycles out to Tramore was ‘parked’ well out of harm’s way, just below the telephone kiosk on Main Street, chatting to a local who was explaining the impending alterations to the one-way system. His companion, won was facing uphill, was wondering why the front seat passenger in a car opposite was becoming agitated and soon found out why as a car sped uphill against the traffic flow, and missing his handlebars by the proverbial whisper. If anyone had stepped from behind the kiosk to cross the road, they would have been mown down due to the excessive speed of the vehicle.
Most people have welcomed the proposed alteration to the system, in particular the restoration of the two-way traffic from the Hi-B corner to the Cross (Broad Street). However, it will be under constant scrutiny and if a number of drivers use it as a means to access Upper Main Street instead of turning in to Queen Street or left toward Church Road, calls will be deafening for a return to the one-way system. With safety uppermost on our thoroughfares they just can’t have their cake and eat it. Please just follow the splendid example set by the majority.
