French Day At Stella Maris
The 15th annual “Journée Francaise” took place on Friday 8th of May. Stella Maris celebrates all things French on this day with blue, white and red in evidence everywhere. The corridors were festooned with balloons and streamers and teachers made “Un grand effort” to dress in Gallic style.
Pupils outdid themselves in the Fancy Dress Competition, President Sarkozy and his new ride Carla Bruni were seen wandering the corridors along with mime artists, chefs, famous painters, les Tourists and even “Miss France”!
A French Table quiz was held for 1st and 2nd Years and there were 90 questions on all aspects of France – its geography and history, its culture and of course irregular verbs!! Other activities included “Un grand tambula”(raffle). This “day out in town” prize which included vouchers for the cinema, Ginos and Debenhams to the value of €60 was won by 5th Year Aishling Lanigan. A poster competition was hugely popular. Well done to all who entered!!
4th and 5th Year students enjoyed a viewing of “Ne le dis a Personne” – a stunning example of French cinema at its best. This film comes highly recommended to all.
The day was brought to a close with a celebratory French “déjeuner”. The Transition Year students hosted a lunch and it certainly was “delicious”. There was a rousing rendition of ‘La Marseillaise’ and both teachers and students ended the day on a high. “Felicitations” to all involved, especially the French Department and the Transition Year students. Vive la France!
