Late Ellen Kelly

Much sadness was evoked by the demise of Ellen (Nellie) Kelly (nee O’Reilly) wife of the late tony Kelly, St.Anne’s, Racecourse Road, Tramore.

Throughout her lifetime Nellie was held in the highest regard and made an immediate and lasting impression by virtue of her caring nature, unassuming courtesy and ready smile which endeared het to young and old alike. She was welcome in whatever company she found herself and all callers to her home were made to feel truly welcome. Those who were indeed privileged to know her will have a personal special anecdote as they truly mourn for the void her sad demise leaves. Nellie supported and worked side by side with Tony for decades at Tramore GAA Club and the tricolour flew at half-mast and Club members paid their own special tribute at the removal from her daughter’s, Garrarus, Tramore to Holy Cross Church, Tramore for Requiem Mass prior to burial in the adjoining cemetery. The large number of sympathisers in attendance bore ample testimony to the esteem and high regard in which Nellie and her family are held.

Bishop Patrick Sheehan said that prayer is the key to repentance, the constant theme of Lent. The parable of the fig tree, where it touches our attitude or our actions let us correct the fault. The garden is the Church and God expects us to show fruit in time of goodness, witness and holiness. The gardener was Jesus who is always pleading and interceding on our behalf, but the choice is ours. May this Lent to us be a blessing, a renewal, a new hope and an encouragement on our difficult pilgrim’s journey here on earth.

Ellen Kelly was born in Waterford and has lived here in Tramore for fifty years since her marriage to Tony. She was brought to the Church for her funeral rites and our prayers which are offered in Faith. During her life Ellen was active in parish affairs, in pantomime and very much involved with the GAA. We thank God for that life and pray that the Lord may take her up to the fulfilment of her faith in Heaven, “I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in me will not die.”

Sincere sympathy in their sad loss is extended to her bereaved daughter Una, son Paul, brother Willie, grandchildren, extended family, relatives and many friends.
