Stella Maris Basketball
After coming to Stella Maris just a few months ago the 1st year basketball have settled in very well. Last Monday they progressed to the south-east semi-final after a win over St.Anne’s Tipperary. The first half was very tight and at half time it was all square. They began the second half on fire and developed a strong lead due to great team work. Sophie O’Donoghue got three baskets from rebounds under the basket. Ailing Ryan and Catherine Queally showed how much they have improved with some superb passing ending in lovely scores. The girls maintained their lead to the end with Ornaith Henderson rebounding her heart out. Next up is the Presentation, Waterford in the semi-final.
The 2nd years then took on St.Anne’s in their quarter-final. The opposition took a big lead in the first quarter which meant the girls were chasing the game. Tara Power and Ashleigh Connor clawed back to lead and it was all to play for in the second half. The girls played with huge heart and the game was level for the majority of the second half. Unfortunately it was not to be with St.Annes’s sneaking a win by three-points at the end. The 2nd years have improved hugely this year but will have to wait until next year.
