Tourism and heritage consultant aids Tramore Tidy Towns
Respected tourism and heritage consultant, Frank Donaldson, has visited Tramore to draft a plan with the Tidy Towns Committee to move the town forward in the Tidy Town stakes.
Mr Donaldson holds an admirable track record working with towns that have succeeded in the Tidy Towns competitions down though the years, including over thirty years with Cork Kerry Tourism.
He has over 20 years of experience as a Tidy Towns adjudicator and in 2005 joined the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government panel of national Tidy Towns adjudicators.
Mr Donaldson will be assisting the new Tidy Towns committee in Tramore to develop a three-year Tidy Town plan for the seaside town which has grown considerably in the last decade.
Commenting on the formation of the new committee and the link up with Mr Donaldson, Ann Cheasty, chairperson, Tramore Tidy Towns said: “We are delighted to have formed such an enthusiastic Tidy Towns committee in Tramore and to now be getting into action to enter the national Tidy Towns competition for 2009. We have a lot to do and we really hope that the whole community in Tramore get involved in the task to create a town we can be really proud of at Tidy Towns level.
“It is brilliant to have Frank Donaldson here today to help us to formulate a strategy to get Tramore back onto the national playing field.”
As well as Anne Cheasty as Chairperson, Catherine Nolan, Deputy Chairperson, and Peggy Murray as treasurer, the committee’s secretary is John O’Sullivan and committee members are Catherine Nolan, Tracey Sauvage, Gina Kelly, Sarah Goode, Hugh O’Keeffe, Joseph Kiely and Tim Lyons, Sinead McGovern, Helena Carroll and Robert McCarthy.
In 2007, Tramore received a total of 246 marks in the national Tidy Towns competition. Tramore did not enter in 2008. Since 2003, the town’s overall mark has increased from 226 to 246, an increase of just under 9%.
