Tramore Coastguard Station – a hive of activity
The Coastguard Station, Love Lane, Tramore is currently exhibiting the work of the children of the Gaelscoil Philib Barún until Sunday 7th June 2009. This work represents the children’s vision for their future school and includes writing, posters, collages and 3D models. The Gaelscoil was established in Tramore in 1985 when a total of 29 children were enrolled and has since grown to over 200 pupils. This exhibition is part of a campaign for the building of a permanent sustainable Gaelscoil on their current site.
As part of a new initiative for the Coastguard Station there is a permanent exhibition on the ground floor Gallery from the Waterford County Archives collection which is very appropriate to the maritime location of the Coastguard Station. ‘From Salvage to Salvation’ is a history of Shipwrecks, Salvage & Sea Rescue in Waterford County. Young pirates are encouraged to sign their own Pirates Charter !
Another exciting venture is ‘Market ‘09′ a selection of original art and handcrafted items to suit all price ranges from various artists. These art works make ideal original gifts for all occasions and will change regularly, so visit often. The Coastguard Station is open Sundays 2pm to 5pm, Monday to Thursday 10.30am to 4.30pm (Lunch 1- 2pm). Admission is free and all are most welcome.
