The 7th annual Waterford Film festival opened on the 8th of November and took place over three nights, with the screening of four short film programs and culminating in the awards ceremony on Sunday, 10th November.  Of the hundreds of submissions received from home and abroad, 36 short films were selected to be showcased. The winning film, “Hannah Cohen’s Holy Communion”, was directed by Shimmy Marcus and features a spirited 7 year old growing up in Dublin in the 1970’s who can’t wait to make her First Holy Communion. However there is only one small problem, she’s Jewish…

Runner-up was “Down the Ladder” , a silent film set in the 1800’s and concerning a day in the life of a mining community in this area. Directed and produced by Sean Corcoran and Angela Mulcahy, it features stunning cinematography, showcasing the beauty of Waterford’s Copper Coast.
