At the presentation of the fourth annual Ted & Mary O’Regan Arts Bursaries were seated from left: John O’Regan, Anna Manahan and Katie Honan. The bursary is open to anyone who is working in the arts or studying in the arts field and who feel that a bursary would help them achieve their artistic plans. Winners over the last few years have included playwrights, dancers, visual artists and drama facilitators.
The bursary was set up by friends of Ted and Mary who wanted to mark their legacy to the city. Among the organizations who contribute each year to make the bursary happen are: Waterford Youth Committee, Waterford City and Waterford County Councils, Garter Lane Arts Centre, Red Kettle, Waterford Spraoi, Theatre Royal, Waterford Youth Arts and a number of individuals who believe this bursary is very important. The O’Regan family also contributed a sizeable amount from their estate.
Last year almost 50 applicants applied and the level of artistic activity emenating from Waterford City and County is very exciting. Each year the Enterprise Board and Centre have also contributed to certain applicants that fall within their remit.
Photo shows some of the recipients last year including dancer Jessica Rowell, drama therapy student Jennifer Grangel, photographer Paddy Dwan and Katie Honan who received the once-off Waterford Panto Society (1984) award.
