Figurative Impressions
The work of artists Maria Doyle and Máire Cregan in Figurative Impressions is comprised of drawings and paintings. Artworks are on paper and canvas with a number of mixed media pieces. The works explore figurative encounters with places, spaces, structures, colour and textures that are an integral part of the environment in which the figures negotiate their daily lives. The ambiguous nature of these encounters resonates with narratives of identity, transience, containment and freedom. From a formal and compositional standpoint the work of both artists is quite different, but both artists are engaged with similar lines of enquiry and seek to invite a personal response from the viewer rather than dictate prescribed readings of their work.
Exhibition runs from 6 March to 23 April 2010 at Garter Lane Gallery 5 O’Connell Street (beside Delaney’s Florist) Waterford. Gallery opening hours: Tuesday – Friday 11am – 5.30pm Saturday 11am – 3pm, admission free.
