Launch of The High Ground exhibition
The Waterford Healing Arts Trust is delighted to announce that ‘The High Ground’, an exhibition of artworks by Art 13, an artist collective from Youghal, will be launched by poet Thomas McCarthy on Monday, 22nd March at 1pm in Waterford Regional Hospital.
This exhibition is the result of a year-long participatory arts project which was led by artist Marie Brett in collaboration with art therapist John McHarg. The aim of the project was to develop the artistic practices of the participating artists.
Thomas McCarthy was born in Cappoquin, Co. Waterford but has lived in Cork for many years now where he works as a librarian. He has published several books of poetry, a novel and personal memoirs.
In the words of the Art Director, Mary Grehan ‘we are delighted that this exhibition which was made in Cork is coming to Waterford and that it will be launched by a Waterford poet who moved to Cork. The exhibition itself represents a significant artistic achievement for all those involved in making it.’
The exhibition launch will be followed by a presentation by John McHarg and Marie Brett and a round table discussion on points of connection between Arts and Health practice and Arts Therapy. This will take place in the WHAT Centre for Arts and Health from 2:30pm to 4:30pm on the 22nd March. Admission is free but booking is essential.
The High Ground will be on view until the 20th May.
