Anthony Mackey from Lisduggan has won the Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) and Limerick City Gallery of Art, Open Drawing Awards. This is a prestigious award for Anthony who is still a student at LSAD and comes on the back of his success in 2007 when he was awarded the Ted and Mary O’Regan Arts Bursary in recognition of his talent and achievements to date.

This latest award was the National Drawing Collection Award, which also means that the drawing was acquired for the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing which is part of LCGA’s permanent collection. There was over 600 entries for this years competion and the exhibition was curated and selected by the artist Arno Kramer.

Anthony’s drawing was one of a number that he made over the last year based on friends and neighbours from the Lisduggan area. Anthony is delighted with the award and wants to thank all those who assisted with the work including the friends who agreed to be the subjects in the work. If you are passing through Limerick the exhibition runs in the Limerick Gallery of Art to 14th February and there are 46 works in the exhibition.
