New exhibition: ‘Drift a While’
Drift for a While, an exhibition of paintings by Jay Lear opens in Garter Lane Gallery, 5 O’Connell Street, Waterford on 16 January 2010 and runs until 27 February.
Drift for a While is an exhibition of paintings by English artist Jay Lear. He is interested in exploring the effects of space and pattern, in particular the relationship between what we see and our inner thoughts. For him creating an artwork can feel like a stripping back of what is being seen and distilling what is important. It is about what creates an uplifting experience. The process of painting is important and the outcome is a journey of discovery. Slowly, through the building up of layers of paint, something specific materialises, often bordering between the abstract and the figurative.
