New exhibition in Old Market House Arts Centre

The Old Market House Arts Centre, Lower Main Street Dungarvan new exhibition – ‘Balancing Act’ opens to the public on Saturday 14th August at 1pm.

County Waterford artists have collaborated with artists from the province of Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada to produce an exhibition titled “Balancing Act”.

The Canadian side will feature work in watercolour by Margaret Walsh Best, and photography by Ray Fennelly, Co. Waterford is represented in oils by Andrea Jameson, print by Donna McNamara and acrylics by Brid Ní Chionnfhaolaidh. The exciting display from these five artists, each working in a different medium and each taking a different approach on the theme of Biodiversity, is intended to highlight the importance of balance in the environment and the impact on that equilibrium by everyone. The juxtaposition of the artwork coupled with the inherent theme creates a solid and pensive exhibition.

This exhibition coincides with the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity, a pivotal year for public involvement in efforts to conserve and sustain our natural ecosystems. While enjoying the aesthetics of the art pieces the viewers will be challenged to consider their roles in conserving and sustaining our natural heritage. This exhibition will continue until Saturday 2nd October 2010 in the Old Market House Arts Centre which is open Tuesday to Friday 11am to 5ppm (lunch 1.30 to 2.30pm) and on Saturdays from 1pm to 5pm. Admission is free.

People in East Waterford will also have the opportunity to view it when it tours to the Coastguard Station, Tramore from October 10th to November 14th 2010.
