New Year Exhibitions in Old Market House Arts Centre
The Old Market House Arts Centre, Dungarvan has given the New Year a strong visual start with by a photographic exhibition ‘Through the Lens’ by Claire Ryan Bourke. Claire is from Kilkenny but has ties with Dungarvan as she was a former member of both Dungarvan Choral Society and Dungarvan dramatic Society in the 1960’s. Her travels to America, China, New Zealand, Europe and Antartica have informed her portfolio of landscapes, nature, wildlife and the environment.
Also on show is ‘Gems from the Civic Art Collection’. Waterford County Council has acquired art work over the past decade to support artists and to build a Civic Art Collection for the County and for future generations. These works are displayed in various public buildings and libraries throughout Co. Waterford. The collection includes works by Arthur Maderson, Michael Mulcahy, Pat Murphy and Fergus Lyons. More recent acquisitions include the Midnight Court print series by Pauline Bewick, and small scale bronze sculptures of various Co. Waterford public art works by Colm Brennan, Niall O’ Neill and Rory Breslin.
A selection of the collection is on show for this exhibition.
‘Market 10’ with a wide range of art and craft work will continue throughout 2010 in the upstairs gallery Seomra de Paor. The works will change regularly and anyone looking for a gift or presentation piece at a reasonable price for original pieces will not be disappointed.
The Arts Centre is open Tuesday to Friday 11am to 5pm (lunch 12.30 to 1.30pm) and on Saturdays from 1pm to 5pm. Admission is free and all are welcome. These exhibitions continue until Saturday 27th February 2010.

I am attending Wit as a mature student, this week we were given the task to visit a gallery and to write a report on a chosen art piece. I just visited the Old Arts Market House Dungarven to discover the work of photographer Clare Ryan Bourke. Her work is just breathtakingly beautifull. It was difficult for me to choose a piece to base my report on, in the end I was drawn to “Artartcia Reflection” This photograph dicpicts a mirror image of land with iceberg reflected in a calm sea without even a hint of a ripple in the water. Pieces of ice float aimlessly, reminence of white fluffy clouds. This photograph creates an atmosphere of calmness and tranquility and one of which the viewer will never tire looking at. Her camera lens has captured the many hues of blue along with mutitude shades of white. One can imagine the quietness and stillness of Antarica.
But I was dissapointed when I tried to find out more information about this talented lady and discovered that there is none anywhere not even online. Maybe you could do a feature on this interesting in my opinion a modern day Ansel Adams.
